Leadership is the process by which a person has an influence over other people. A leader inspires, motivates and directs their activities to help achieve group or organizational goals.
Creating and maintaining sustainable business require an understanding of the role of leadership in addressing personal outcomes of employees. Happiness is acommon goal of everyone and most other things ar possibly meaning to that goal.
Development on the other hand focuses on building knowledge and skills of organizational members so that they are prepared to take on new responsibilities and challenge.
Leadership and its role are pertinent issues for the business and organisations nowadays. The leaders are individuals who establish direction for a working group of individuals and  who gain commitment from this group to established direction and who then motivate member to achieve the direction’s outcome [Conger 1992]
Leadership can be viewed through multiple angles and concepts. Traditionally, leadership is a set of features  owned by a leader or it is a social phenomenon that comes from relationship. These concepts can give different opinions about the definitiions of leadership come from the personal qualities of leader or leader makes followership through what he or she does or believes.
In keeping with modern pace, there is the need for good leaders to emerge. Accoding to coleman 1995,leadership requires the ability to persuade not dominate others. The fundamental aspect of a leadr is thecapacity to learn to adapt and to make a difference.
Modern organization are therefore evolving and changing rapidly and to develop effective strategies they need to embrace change and growth.
Organizational strategies, structures and process for improving an organisation’s effectiveness (Cummins and Woeley 1997) essentially there fore are four quadrants in the context of leadership and organizational development. The inner self-invisible thoughts and actions and outer self-visible thought and actions dealing with leadership.
Leaders  must create a positive environment to learn, experiment and take risk. The leaders must keep an eye on the future and build good networks.  Leaders according to Bennis and Nanus 1985, is either a person who is in charge and has authorities to take decision and powers to implement the decisions or the process having a set of other authoritative process about organisationa,personal or social process of influence for which the groups, teams or organization can do more to increase their ability.
Northhouse 2004 said leadership is like the abominable snowman whose footprints are everywhere but who is nowhere to be seen.  Therefore, Planning leadership along with organizational development is the right mantra for a successful organization effective leader should develop plans and procedures that supports organizational organizational priorities.
